The vineyards

The estate-grown grapes used to produce all our exceptional wines are grown on the rolling hillsides of our Paradise Vineyards property, located in southern Sonoma County at the intersection of Highways 37 and 121. We have over 90 acres of vines overlooking the north shore of San Francisco Bay, Mt. Tamalpais, and the city skylines of the northern San Francisco Bay Area. We are proud to represent the newly recognized Petaluma Gap AVA with the wines crafted from our vineyard.

Petaluma Gap AVA

Our estate vineyard is located within the Petaluma Gap AVA and is blessed with the distinctive daily temperature swings for which this unique winegrowing region is recognized. Almost every evening a wind gap in the southern Sonoma County coastal mountain range funnels cooling breezes and fog east from the Pacific Ocean, through the city of Petaluma and south to San Pablo Bay, directly to our Paradise Vineyards property. The persistent afternoon breezes that temporarily push away the fog and cooler daytime temperatures during the growing season create optimal conditions for lower grape yields and longer hang-time, enabling expressive flavors and fruit characteristics to fully develop. It is the ideal recipe for elegant, well-balanced wines of character and distinction. Our Thirty-Seven wines are perfect examples of these elements. Sustainability

From the very beginning of our winemaking journey—when we purchased our Paradise Vineyard in 1999—sustainability has been a central focus. Over the years we have made decisions in the vineyard and in the winery based on doing more to protect the land, encouraging balance between the growing process and the natural surroundings, and creating and sharing our final product with as little impact to the environment as possible. Since 2018, our vineyard and winery have been Certified California Sustainable and we are constantly monitoring our energy and water usage. We are alwayslooking for new ways to improve our practices. Below are just some of the practices that we have implemented in the vineyard and the winery to establish and maintain our certification.

  • To ensure efficient irrigation management, we use soil moisture probes and irrigate only with captured rainwater from our two holding ponds.
  • We plant cover crops to help break up our heavy clay soil in order to provide better water availability, improve soil biological properties, increase nitrogen content, manage weeds, attract beneficial insects, and help fight soil erosion. We have also planted bee and butterfly friendly gardens near the vineyard to attract vital pollinators to our property.
  • Remote sensing and aerial imagery help us evaluate overall plant health, assist with water management, and identify crop stress due to disease, pests and nutritional deficiencies.
  • In 2022, we will be installing additional solar panels.
  • We incorporate stringent policies of reduction and recycling of paper, cardboard, and glass during every step of the winemaking and distribution processes.
  • LED lighting helps us control energy usage throught the winery and offices. We also use a timer on our cooling units so they are not running during the night when the temperatures are lower.
  • We control our water usage by using steam technology when cleaning barrels and tanks.
  • All of our wines are shipped in recyclable cardboard boxes with compostable pulp inserts that consumers can put in their “green” bins used for yard waste.
